Yes. I'm gonna praise the expat korea site. For newbies who have never heard of it here is the URL www.expatkorea.com/.
Truth is, i have slagged off this site a few times in the past. And mentioned that I thought it was a bit of a clique. I stand behind my former words. But let me set the record straight on one thing. The admin over at expats, RF, is a wise and decent leader.
They recently had a ten year anniversary over on that site and I wish RF the best. Sincerely. And I'm gonna lift a quote from one of their recent threads to prove a point here. Rf recently said "Unfortunately, Bill couldn't or wouldn't realize that the WWW isn't totally anonymous and one should generally act with a modicum of decency..."
Wise words. And RF is right. It don't take a genius to find out all kind of information about folks just based on their IP or their email addy.
Furthermore, the expat community in Korea is just not that large. I especially mean, the long-term expat community. Lots of folks know each other directly, or through a friend, or a friend of a friend and any half decent moderator or admin on a discussion site can easily find out the real identity of so-called "anormynous" posters with an afternoon of digging.
But before I get to the real point of this thread, Willy's hidden agenda, let me praise RF a bit more. RF owns his site. He spends his personal coin to create and maintain a site for expats to meet and yak and share war stories. RF is not making money. No way, that site is not generating enough revenue to keep it afloat. Not a chance in hell. Still, they have been up and running for 10 years. And RF is not on there every day bragging or asking for compliments. Not one bit. He pays for the site and runs it in a just and decent manner. Heck fire, he even allowed Dr. Ducky to ply his trade on there for a long while before finally booting him to the curb. Tolerant might just be RF's middle name. So let me reiterate. If you want to belong to a site that has a bit of a "clique" feeling to it, but is run by a decent and fair administrator then go join up with the troup at expatkorea.
Trying to make money off of a discussion site sometimes leads one to do things that go against "decency". And sites that only focus on the bottom line generally lack the " modicum of decency" mentioned by today's hero, RF.
Is everything about money? Well, no it ain't. Some folks are not in it for the money. I'm not. I get paid all of jack and shit to write on this site. And RF does not make a dime with the expat korea site.
This Idiot site is a site based on satire. Humor. We like to laugh at ourselves as expats and enjoy it when we get insults hurled at us. I mean who in their right mind would call their site Idiots of Korea? That right... we would. And we like to slag off the pompous jerks on other sites. The wanna bees. The losers... the thin-skinned pudgy boy who cannot quite climb the rope in gym class.
And so, this deeatribe is here to serve a purpose. As all of us know, the reputation for being good takes a long time to get around. But a bad reputation gets around overnight.
Thanks to RF, Expat Korea is a pretty damn good site.
Happy Anniversary Expat Korea. I hope you are still around for another decade and many many more.
